You can try to use the FDO shapefile connection. This will allow you to
check the data out from the shapefile and then check the changes back into
to it. I say you could try doing this way because the FDO connect has proven
to be a bit unreliable.
The other way is the old fashion way we did it before the FDO connection.
Take the Shapefile and import it in. Then transfer the attribute data to a
centroid and convert the polygons into polylines. Then maintain the parcel
polygons using a polygon topology. This way is not near as flashy as the FDO
connection and requires more effort but it is reliable comparatively.
Either of these will allow you to enter data in using the meets and bounds
called for in a plat or deed.

I'm using shp as my main data - parcel data. Is it possible for me to update
the data using technical descriptions/COGO? I mean create new polygons or
subdivide polygons using bearings and distances then integrate these into
the shp data? How would one do this?
Thank you so much!
