Units instead of feet in wgs84 map

I have created a drawing using the Asign Global Coordinate System to be LL84 When i plote two points (longdd, latdd, orthoelevationfeet)that should be a mile apart on my drawing and then use the linear dimension to tell me the distance. I get a value of 7.16 instead of 5280. what am I doing wrong?

Hello Brandon,

Try using the MAPDIST command. This will measure the
geodetic distance. Geodetic distance is different from simple straight line
distance in that it takes into account the curvature of the Earth.

Just to follow on to Marks reply, the points came
in Lat,Lon. which is in degrees not feet. The points are 7.16 degrees apart. If
you convert the map to use your state plane (FT) coordinates you should see the
differences
