Transfering links from one database another

Hello,
My company is digitizing water utility features for a client (valves, hydrants, and such) using Map 5. The client keeps all the tablular information about these features on an IBM AS400 mainframe. Currently, I am digitizing the features, having configured data input to prompt me for a key that links the feature to an Access database. The Access database was exported from the AS400 as sort of a snapshot. For now, things are going well. However, after I am done digitizing I will need to shift the links from the Access database to the duplicate rows within the AS400. Anybody have any advice as to how I should go about it?
Thanks,
Todd

Todd,

Although I know nothing about AS400, I do know
this:  For each Autocad entity linked to an external database, the only
information stored within the DWG is the Link Template name and Key value.
I have done a lot of migrating between databases in Map and all that is required
is to redefine the Link Template to point to the new datasource and make sure
the Key field is the same datatype.  You will not have to regenerate links
at all.

Good Luck,

Scott

I wish it was that easy with an AS400, I have been trying for a month to get
my maps linked to one. Maybe I just don't get the concept of a AS400,
libraries, members, source, etc. a lot of different terms that you don't see
in excell or access or dbase. If anyone knows the ins and outs of one please
reply.

Thanks Scott for your reply, thats good news.
Murph on the other hand, you're news is worrying me.

Murph, I can only pass on what I've heard. I've talked to folks who said they've been able to use a standared OLE DB connection, and I've talked to people who have used drivers that come with softwares like BOSaNOVA, RUMBA, or HitSoftware. And finally, I've heard that when you buy an AS400, you get a Client access CD that has a windows driver you can use. I guess I've heard a lot, but thats a long way from practical experience. What have you tried and what have you run into?
Thanks,
Todd

A brick wall is what I'm running into.
I too heard that you can do a standard OLE DB to connect.
I think my biggest wall to over come is getting the right drivers and ODBC
configuration on my workstation. Right now I'm using "Mocha" to connect to
our AS400, which is a watered down version of Client Access for Win2000. Our
IT dept is upgrading the network from NT4 to 2000 and me playing around with
something to connect/link to the AS400 is the last thing on their minds. But
I think I need the full version of Client Access to set it up right.

I am trying to just link a subset of a table in access. I am having a hard time doing this. So I created a query in access to query out the records I want to link. But now I want the records in this query to be linked from the originial database table. I tried redefine the link template, but it won't let me change the database table. Any ideas?

Under the Map pulldown menu, choose database >
Edit Link Template Properties

This will allow you to redirect the link template
to a different table.

Cheers,

Will
