Table conflicts

ACAD MAP 3D 2010 - Attachment is 3 PNG zipped

This has bugged me for a long time - ever since I was introduced to object
data (2006).  The problem is that there is an XREF that has an object data
table with the same name as an object data table in the current DWG.

The Question

How do you rename, or delete an object data table?  It is no longer
required and I would like to delete it (without using VBA or .NET).

The Rant

1. Why do object data tables in an XREF have any influence over the current
drawing?  I could see it being an issue if it was attached as a source
drawing, but not as an XREF.

2. Why are the error messages so cryptic?  Just tell me the
name of the OD table and the XREF it is in.

Hey fieldguy,

I've seen similar problems when querying multiple drawings that has 'the same' Object Data tables defined in each of the drawings. Although in reality, the tables were NOT exactly the same: the field name might have been spelled differently, or a different data type was assigned. When Map sees this, it gets confused because the tables might be named the same, but are actually different.

Regardless, you should be able to rename/delete Object Data tables in the Define Object Data dialog.

I'm not sure what Workspace you work in, but the command call is: adedefdata

Hope this helps.

Thanks Warren.  It helped indeed.  I
found a post of yours from Sept. 15, 2003 on the same topic.  I went
digging.

FWIW, if you saw PNG 3 attached previously, the
message in the bottom left corner was what concerned me.  I closed map and
went for lunch.  When I re-opened that DWG the table "Neighbourhood" was
gone.  I still got the conflict warning and proceeded to check all
xrefs.  It is now clean.

Thanks again for the posts!
