Blair,
even if you can link several table records to one object in the drawing I
wouldn't recommend to do that, because of what you're just experiencing. It's
better to have only record linked to one object and having a unique ID in the
table.
I couldn't tell you how to solve this best as I don't know your data and
requirements, but you should try to figure out a way to manage it differently.
