plot files

Why are the plot files from Map 5.0 and LDT so large?
The same image with contours in ACAD 14 is approximately 75% smaller.

Also, what is the most effective way to handle the plotting of large images with contours. Even with a new computer the machine "bogs" down while compiling the data and making the .plt
