Oracle Spatial schema directions?

I have been looking through posts and found a lot of activity. Has anyone found a clear explanation of
1. Downloading clients to access Oracle
2. Developing a Schema
3. Creating Indexes.
4. Actually importing and exporting Spatial data!

I would love to hear of a good help file!

Hi Denton,

I'll answer what I can here.

2. Developing a schema. There is no schema to develop. You need an empty one to start work. Ask your DBA to create a new user and a large enough tablespace. During Export, Map creates the tables and other items for you.

3. Creating Indexes. Either use the ORAINDEX command in Map which has good help or the Oracle Spatial Indexing Advisor. Be aware that this is a complex subject, and if you want to get into details, it is not a 5-minute job.

4.Importing and Exporting. What help do you need? Use ORAEXPORT to send stuff out, ORAIMPORT to get it in Map again. You need to index your data if you want to use the Location conditions in the dialog box. Again, I think the online Help is certainly enough to get you started here.

Please feel free to post requests for more details.

Cheers,
David Walsh
