map import changes

We recently upgraded from acad map r14 to 2000i. We used to be able to import arcinfo data and have it automatically map itself to seperate layers; ie; importing contour data in and having it automatically map each contour elev. to its own layer. I dont see any way of doing this in 2000i. The only option i see is to bring all the contours in on the same layer. Could anyone help with this?

use the old MapImport4 command.
