Map 2d images onto 3d cad file

Hello, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask...

I need to map a 2d image onto the 3d cad file. The 2d image is taken with a camera which identify a certain defects on the real part. The 3d CAD file is originally from the designer without indicating any defects. I need to overlay the 2d image onto the original 3d file.

Anyone have an idea which software or strategy i can use?

It's sure that you are in the wrong place, sir.

You googled "map autocad 3d", but here we talk about geographic maps, not about 'mapping a 2D image on a 3d object'...

Anyway, in Autocad vanilla you can do it easily: press F1 and learn all about the _RMAT command.
