Map 2011 (64-bit) connection to ArcSDE 9.3.1/SQL (32-bit)

Having difficulties making successful connection...any help would be appreciated:

Running Map 2011 (64-bit)  and trying to connect to ArcSDE 9.3\SQL 2008 R2 (32-bit).

Have copied the 64-bit files (sde.dll, sg.dll, and pe.dll) to AutoCAD FDO/bin folder.

Have added esri_sde_ss  5151/tcp to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services file.

When trying to connect get the following error:

"Failed to connect.

FDO Provider entry point function 'CreateConnection' returned NULL"

Have successfully connected to server using ArcGIS.

How did you get the 64-bit files if you're using the 32-bit SDE?  You might need to try the 32-bit drivers and see if that works.
