Insert Tiff image

Hi
I am using Map 5 on WinNT 4.0 Service Pack 6.0

I want to insert a Tiff image by the following -

Insert - Image Manager - Attach - Select Image

I select the image file (which is in Tiff Format) and the preview says "Image File Not Valid".
I can open the same image in R14.
Does anyone know what is the solution to this problem?

Hi,

It's odd that a .Tiff file would open in R14 and
not in Map 5. If possible, try converting the .Tiff file to a .jpg or other
supported format.

Hi Joe.
Thanks for the reply. I saved the .Tiff as a .Jpeg format and I was able to import it into Map5.
I can still open the .Tiff image in other packages. Is there any way that I can get MAp5 to import the .Giff images as this is the format in which we receive them.

Many Thanks

Hi,

It's interesting that the .Tiff images won't
import. I know there are many different types of .Tiff files and perhaps looking
at one of them in something like Adobe's Photoshop to determine the type of file
it is may be helpful. You also wrote about ".Giff" files, do you mean ."Tiff"?
Try to find our what type of file it is, for example 8 bit or RGB or indexed
etc. Are they large files?

Joe

You can try to import the TIFF file into PhotoShop and save it back. If
there is something slightly wrong in the TIFF format that prevents Map 5
from reading it, that should get fixed.

Hi,

I think your problem might be that your "tif" file
is compressed in a format that is not supported by Map 5.

Try opening it in some other software and "Save-as"
the file without compression.

This helped me before.

Hello.
I opened the .Tiff file and saved it as RGB, Uncompressed and I can now import them into Map 5. The old format was CYMK, LZW Compressed.
Many thanks for the help everyone.

Dispite of all the solutions mentioned in the replies, there is a diverence in the imagemodule in map5.
First of all is GIF no longer supported. And TIFF is only supported in uncomressed form.
This not very friendly from AutoDESK.
Because drwaings made in pre map5 versions with these two formats have no longer viewable images.

Hi Richard,

You are right, these options have been removed from
the *International* versions of Map. This is because of licensing issues with
GIF and compressed TIFF files that affect countries outside of the United
States. Nothing that Autodesk could do about this I'm afraid. However if you
want to move over to the USA and buy Map here, that would fix the problem
;-]

Just to set the record straight, only TIFF files compressed using LZW
compression are no longer supported in Map. Other compression methods that
were previously supported continue to be supported.
