inexpensive, simple contouring software?

Hi --

I'm using A2K Map 4 and have Overlay 2000....

Does anyone know of a low-cost, fairly simple software (freeware, shareware)
to draw contour maps from x,y,z textfile data? It can be stand-alone
software that does not interface w/ Map, etc. -- to get the results into
A2K, I can scan and trace a printed contour map.

I looked at QuickSurf, but that is far more software power than I need and
20x my budget. The current project is my only (small -- 84 points)
contouring job in the 1.5 years I've worked here, and I'm not likely to do
contouring very often (if ever) in the future....

If all else fails, I can eyeball the contours by hand....

Thanks.

John

Hello John,
You might consider hiring it out. Since you have the data already, it shouldn't
cost you very much to have someone create the contours for you and give you the
file.
I know that throws a time delay in there, but you may find someone close who can
ftp or email you the results quickly.
Just a thought.

John,

Have you seen EZYSurf from www.ezysurf.com I have not yet evaluated this product
but it looks like this is what you may need. It is only US$ 55

Place your x,y,z for each point in an Excel Spreadsheet cell. Place them in
order for common "Z's":

Pline (A1)
x1,y1,z1 (A2)(e.g. 345.35, 692.85, 800)
x2,y2,z1 (A3-the z's should be the same)

After you get them in the cells, copy to clipboard and paste into the
"COMMAND" line of AutoCAD. The Pline line command should draw it.
This is just a quick idea, if you are interested.

Hi John,

have you looked at the "Surface Modeling" package
from Eagle Point?  It's fully intergrated with Autocad 2000, and very
inexpensive in comparison to other packages.
