Hi,
I am a brand new user of Autocad 3DMap 2015 . I wonder if it is possible to get some help for the following procedure :
Import shp file containing buildings and 3D attributes for its height .
Visualize those attributes
Extrude the buildings elevation.
Thanks in advance .

Hi,
>> Import shp file containing buildings and 3D attributes for its height .
Use command _MAPIMPORT to import the geometry or command _MAPCONNECT to connect to the SHP file.
>> Visualize those attributes
Which attributes?
Using _MAPCONNECT you can use the stylization to create lables, but if you mean "labeling" when you write about "visualize attribtues"? I don't know.
>> Extrude the buildings elevation.
You can look to that video (using first _MAPIMPORT with object-data, then ADEQUERY to create objects with modifying the property THICKNESS (instead of ELEVATION as shown in the video.
>>>click for video<<< you can jump over the creation of the contours, start at command _MAPIMPORT.

Let me improve the tip about querying by Thickness, gentlemen.
A thick polyline is not an extruded one, but only an "empty inside" 2.5D object.
To transform into a "true" solid, you should use the _CONVTOSOLID command.
Take a look at this old blog post.

In attach the 3 D model results
Well done, sir: if you have a couple of free minutes, please write down your workflow, in order to be helpful for the community here, thx.
1st Action - Import a shp file with buildings´ outline , containing a field with z information ( height of buildings) :
Steps :
1) Open a session of AutoCadMap 3 D 2015 using the Map Classic workspace
2) Choose Map drafting> import and select the Shp file
3) In the form import, choose data field, open the window attribute data and select create object data and the field with height of buildings;
4) Save file and close
2nd Action - Open a new file and attach the previous file with the imported shp file
Steps:
1) File > Attach
2) Map Drafting > Define query
3) In the Query , Choose Location All, Alter properties for Thickness and select expression button
4) In the Query dialog select draw option and execute query
3 rd Action - Convert Poligons to Solids
Step
Hello ,
I come back again with this topic, because I was trying to repeat the workflow for the extrusion of 3D buildings and i am having an issue.
When i am creating the query , Choose Location All, when i choose Alter properties for Thickness and select expression button, I am not seeing object data neither object properties ! ( in attach the form where it is missing the object data and object properties)
Someone could help to fix this issue ?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I used the procedures that you mentioned but iI am still unable to see the data properties and the object properties .
I have also tried different files but they have all the same problem.
Any suggestion ?

Are you REALLY sure you executed the 2nd action of your own post "06-11-2014 12:26 AM"..?
I am having issues with the last step. Converting the polygons in to soilds.
Can any one help me please?
Vru.
Hi,
you should have changed the option in the MAPIMPORT dialog to use (closed) polylines while importing polygons. Otherwise MAPIMPORT creates MPOLYGON-objects and these can't be extruded.
