How to create multiple closed polygons at once? BPoly?

Has anyone ever encountered a command or bonus tool which will create mulitple closed polygons at once? Bpoly will create this one at a time, but will take a long time to complete. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Daryl,

I am trying to work out something similar using a Lisp programming. What
I am trying to do is to find out if there can be a method by which a
program can scan an area and fill them up with non-overlapping polygons
( using BPoly ) sharing boundaries with existing edge boundaries. I have
realized that for most practical data, this would also need some prior
cleanup of the boundary for BPoly to work.

If you can send me a sample drawing, I can look into it as well to see
if I can work out a more comprehensive solution.

Regards
Rakesh

This solution is not quite "at once" and would
certainly benefit from scripting but does give feedback on polygon validity and
is MUCH more reliable than BPOLY...

You need to create a polygon topology of either all
or selected objects and then there is a menu option in the topology sub-menu to
create closed polylines from polygon topology - you just specify the new
layer.

A copy of a post from

.  I would still like
to hear if Rakesh has success with the lisp routine - post it if you
succeed.

this may not be very quick but lets give it a try.
first you need to go to map>tools>drawing cleanup
here you should have 3 buttons, start at the top and work your way down
first button pick select manually and then click on the select button (or it
will do the entire drawing)
click on ok
click on the object conversion button
here I leave modify original objects cheked and check all the option except
circle to arc
click on ok
click on cleanup options (this one can be tricky)
this is all about the geometry of the drawing (all line must be intersecting
other lines)
stick with the default here and hope it works for you. (you might play with the
tolerance a little.
click on ok
click on proceed
at the command line you will see
modified objects
deleted objects
created objects
I will run the drawing cleanup until it reads 0 (usally) on all of them.

ok.... the next step is to go to map>topology>create
here give it a name and a description and click on link objects
(note: there is a centroid box as well, make sure you have nothing on except
the boundaries when doing this. If you have a single peice of text in each
polygon your ok...Map will use it as a centroid otherwise it will create a
centroid for you (as long as create missing centroid is check)). I also have
highlet errors and mark errors check as well.
ok after picking the link objects button click on select manually and click on
the select button
select the objects
click on proceed
if it worked you will see "topology successfully created"
if not it will show you the errors it found
fix the errors and try again
once the topology is created you can create the closed polygons
go to map>topology>create closed polygons
it should default to the name you gave it
select the layer you want the line to be put in and click on ok

good luck

Hi Daryn,

Go to
href="http://www.bergetti.com">www.bergetti.com
-> autocad -> GBound
and download a program called GBound.  It's a demo version which will work
on R12-2000 Autocad.  It's priceless!  It will create closed polygons
out of all entities you select, and display problem areas in diff't
colors.  Anyways, it's awesome, so check it out.

The best and the easiest way to create multiple
closed polygons is to use a program called GBound.  It flawlessly
creates closed polygons out of autocad entities, and saves you huge amounts
of time. Search any of your favorite search engines for "GBOUND" or go to
href="http://www.bergetti.com/millenium/cd/autocad/gbound.html">http://www.bergetti.com/millenium/c...
 and
download a fully functioning demo.
