Exporting to ArcInfo Coverage

Hi! All

I encountered problem while converting AcadMap3 drawing to ArcInfo
Coverage. The procedure used was Map>MapTools>Export.... The coverage
folder was formed. But while opening the coverage in ArcInfo, it pops
the message 'TIC is badly formed. Tic file (TICOPN).' What does that
mean? How do i slove it?

Thanks in advance
Monika

Monika,

in general tics represent the drawing extents. ArcInfo's documentation
should explain what this error means and whether there are ways to solve,
but of course, Map should write the tics properly in the first instance.
Can you reproduce the problem i.e. did you repeat the export procedure to
see whether Map writes corrupt tic files all the time? If yes, please,
choose another drawing.
Maybe it's related to certain objects in the drawing (3D or other) which
Map does not support?

Infact tried doing the same by drawing only three lines in the drawing to
make it very simple. But still it gives the same error. How do i check the
documentation of the error?

Am repeating this query. Please suggest a solution.

Monika,

the only similar issue I could find in our database refers to lines and was
reported against Map 2. However, it is not mentioned whether this happened
with a single file only or always when using lines (no defect was logged).

Are you exporting lines? Did you already try to export other types and did
that work?
If yes, it could be a bug, but I'm afraid, nothing will be done to fix this
as development on Map 3 stopped years ago.

As a workaround try the following:

1. At you drawing extents draw 4 AutoCAD points (one in each corner of the
extents rectangle). You cannot draw them 'freely' by just picking manually
some points in the drawings, because it has to be a proper rectangle where X
and Y do match. A simple example is: 0,0 - 100,0 - 0,100 and 100,100.

2. Now, export these 4 points to coverage format (same coverage name like
for the other objects). I'm not sure, if exporting lines afterwards would
overwrite the points again. You might try it both ways.

3. Open the coverage in ArcInfo and see whether this solves the problem.
