Defining a Global Coordinate System

Using Map 2008

When I click Setup->Define Global Coordinate System...

I recieve the following message:

Cannot open coordinate system dictionaries for write.

I attempt to define the CS in Map 2009 and am able to supply all required information.
When I click OK I recieve the following message:

Cannot add coordinate system to dictionary.

Is this information still stored at:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\GIS\CoordSys?

If so then this is a privilege issue with my IT folks.

Thanks for the feedback!

Looking for the answer in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

I am getting a "coordinate system missing" message and "You do not have write access to the dictionary".

I got this to work by right-clicking the Acad desktop shortcut and selecting
"Run as administrator". Unfortunately the admin does not see any network
drives, so I had to add the coordinate system, exit acad, then go back in
with my usual user account. My user account has administrator priveledges -
but obviously not sufficient to modify coordinate systems.

You must only to disable "User Accaunt control" (UAC)!

I don't recommend disabling UAC.  It's the only significant security improvement Microsoft has ever added to Windows, and it's a shame to disable it.

The problem arises because UAC is rather restrictive of access to stuff in ProgramData.  It won't even allow access if your user account has administrative privledges

You can fix the issue by changing the permissions of the following directory:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Geospatial Coordinate Systems

Right-click on the folder and select Properties, then on the Security tab, add "Full Control" for your user.  I usually just select the "Users" group, and change permissions for that group to "Full Control".
