Crop WMS image

Is there a way to crop an aerial image that is loaded by connecting to a WMS server?

Is there also a way to save that image after cropping to a JPG or TIF?

Thanks,

Hi,

WMS data is only updated for the visible area, so the smaller the zoom-value is the smaller the WMS-data is updatet.

You can use the plot-function to a raster-printer therefor.

You can easy crop a WMS imagery, by means of the opensource Qgis:

  1. load it
  2. save all as Geotiff
  3. unload the WMS layer, and open the Geotiff
  4. clip by a vector boundary, setting "No data" for the outside stuff.

As you can see in the attached file, you'll get a clipped Geotiff, with alpha channel.

In Autocad, _MAPIINSERT then set TRANSPARENCY=ON in the image properties.

I'm pretty sure this procedure would create the same issue we have now. The licensing agreement for the imagery we have access to only allows it to be used in the software you bring it into. Once you bring it into a software program such as the one you mentioned, you can't clip part of the imagery and then bring it into another software package such as AutoCAD. I am going to check it out though to make sure.

Thanks for the input.

I have only used to crop images with the help of following code:

Private Sub button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
Dim folderName As String = "c:/YGPic.bmp"

Dim ygPic As YGpic = YGFolder.LoadImageFolder(folderName)
ImageManipulating.ApplyImageCropping(ygPic, 50, 60, 200, 300)

YGFolder.StoreImageFolder(ygPic, "c:/ygpic.bmp", New BMPCreator())

End Sub

I hope it helps. Good luck.

Sir, thanks for your effort, but we're talkin' about georeferenced images, not "simple" bitmaps...

Guru guys out there...will appreciate very much for a solution.

Thanks.

My solution is still the same, sir, but actual Qgis release allows you to set the output density, e.g. 1 meter/pixel.

9 Years later, I have exact same requrement and found this.

I wish we had got a solution about this topic without having to use a 3rd party software like QGIS since C3D/Map 3D had already setup a connection of WMS/WMTS.

Hi @TiStars

Of course there's a way, but you can't call it CROPPING an image.

Yes, it achieves the same thing as a CROPPED image because it limits the WMS to small area, an area that's defined by you, and doesn't display WMS data that's outside your area.

BTW, it's better to start a brand new post with a brand new title, than to piggyback onto an existing one.  Burying your question in an old post only temporarily bumps it up (until another post moves your bumped-up post downward) and gives the impression no solution has been found since the OP's original post.

Unfortunately, mentioning 'cropping' will limit the responses since readers will automatically assume the issue can only be solved by utilizing some form of cropping  A more productive approach is to provide the data you have then explain the end result you desire. It's not really necessary to mention a method which must be, or should be, used to get there.

Trust the forum, if there's a way, another tool (and there is), someone in the forum will (or has) figured it out.

Thank you @ChicagoLooper again for your reply, and sorry for digging out the old one. I have got only limited English vocabulary which narrow my search scope over the forum.

Yes the forum is amazing and iteligent people gathering together to work out many solutions.
Thanks for your advice and I will continue to look for it.

You have a nice day.
