commands cause high cpu usage

Any command I use seems to be sending my cpu usage up to 50%, which is actually 100% on one of my processors. I have MAP 2008 with raster design. If I want to put some text in. I run command dtext and my cursor crawls around the screen, once I click an area the rest of the command seems to work fine.
