Cannot save projection code to the drawing (for Shape files)

AutoCAD Map 3D 2013; 64-bit Vista

Planning and Analysis...\Connect\Add SHP Connection

When I add shape files, it adds the file but then each time warns that the it cannot save projection code to the drawing.  The shape files from UTM83-10 and CA83IIIF then don't align.

At first I only had this problem with shape files on the network H: drive.  Now I also have the problem with shape files in C: drive

ERROR LOG

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Map3dErrorLog xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="AcMap3dErrorLog.xsd"><Session user="therink" start="3/18/2013 11:02:28 AM" document="Drawing6.dwg"><Error code="3" type="2" dispensation="2" sId="2" occurrence="1">Cannot save projection code to the drawing.<Entry code="3" type="2" sId="3" occurrence="1">Unknown projection name.<Parameters><Parameter classId="0" position="0"><Message>CA83IIIF</Message><SQL></SQL></Parameter></Parameters></Entry></Error><Error code="3" type="2" dispensation="1" sId="4" occurrence="1">Cannot save projection code to the drawing.<Entry code="3" type="2" sId="5" occurrence="1">Unknown projection name.<Parameters><Parameter classId="0" position="0"><Message>UTM83-10</Message><SQL></SQL></Parameter></Parameters></Entry></Error></Session></Map3dErrorLog>

If in a new empty drawing I use the ADESETCRDSYS command to set the coordinate system, I can select UTM83-10 or CA83IIIF from the list but the I get a message, 'Invalid projection code', and it won't select it.  (I don't actually want to assign a global coordinate system since I have Shape files with various coordinate systems. This shows that the coordinate systems exist but the program can't find them for some reason).

Thanks for your help.

Tom

It works now that I uninstalled MapGuide Open Source.  Thanks.

First, please note that Windows Vista does not meet the system requirements for AutoCAD Map 3D 2013.

http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS15421202

Is the .prj file contained in the same folder as the .shp, .idx, and .dbf? It needs to be, otherwise it won't be recognized.

Another easy thing to try is to right-click your shortcut to AutoCAD Map 3D and choose Run As Administrator. Does that change your results?

Next, I recommend using the newer MAPCSASSIGN command rather than the old ADE- command to assign a coordinate system to a drawing. If you are getting error messages when trying to assign any number of the built-in coordinate systems to a blank drawing, then you might want to check your permissions to C:/ProgramData/Autodesk, and investigate the possibility that something went wrong during installation with your Geospatial Coordinate Systems folders there.

A clean uninstall/reinstall might be in order.

Finally, you could be experiencing a conflict with another program on your system that is trying to read/write to these coordinate systems. Do you happen to have MapGuide Open Source installed?

You also might want to try the new hotfix that was just posted:

Coordinate Systems Hotfix

Installing the Coordinate Systems Hotfix did not fix the problem.
