Can you lower the Buffer Detail

I'm creating a 12' buffer all the pipe in an oil field. When trying to do this, autocad keeps crashing. I can do it to some of the pipes but it's too much for my computer to do all of the pipes. But I did notice that the buffer is made up of a lot of points. For example if you made a buffer of a point that buffer would have a ployline drawn around it that is made up of a 1000 nodes or more. I don't need that much detail. Is there a setting that we can change to make the buffer not so detailed, thus creating polylines with less points, thus maybe Autocad won't crash.

What are the specs on your workstation? Sounds like you don't have the power
(resources) to do what you need.

I'm using 2008. I was playing around with FDO. I converted my polylines to
SDF. Creating a buffer still crashes my computer. But I can create a
buffer of smaller area's. Now I need to UNION them together and I can't
find that command. Is that missing in 2008? Have they added it to 2010?
