I have recently added the plug-in required for Map3d to use the aerials from Arc Map. There is a coordinate system setup which is easy to follow, but I haven't any idea how to set up the GIS overlay, and have contacted our GIS team. They may not know either, because the plugin was news to them. Does anyone know how to set up AutoCAD to use GIS overlay?
What version of Map3D and could you supply a link to the plug-in?
further on you mention Autocad. do mean Map3D of vanilla autocad?

Hello
+1 with Dave
1) You have a "vanilla" AutoCAD OR an AutoCAD MAP 3D ?
2) Which release of ACAD or MAP : 2014 / 2013 / 2012 / 2011 / etc ...
3) The Plugin : which one ?
- The Bingmaps plugin of any ACAD 2014 ?
- The Bingmaps / Google Earth plugin of Plexearth ?
- The OLD Google Earth Plugin of Autodesk for ACAD/MAP/etc version 2012/2011/2010 ?
- An OTHER Plugin ?

It sounds like you are using "ArcGIS for AutoCAD". If that's not the case then the rest of this won't apply.
I'm assuming you can add an ESRI basemap without any problem but are not sure how to add your own GIS data. Click on Add Service, then at the bottom of the pop-up click on New Server Connection and add the provider details for your ArcGIS Server services. Typically this will look something like http://<servername>:<port>/arcgis/services.
Once that's set up then that server will show up in the list when you click the Add Service button. Select that server and you will get another window listing all of your published services, simply pick the one you want and add it to your drawing.
