ArcIMS access.

Is there a way to connect Map 3D 2006 to an ArcIMS database, and view the data as a raster image overlay? This would be a very useful capability, but although I've come across ways of connecting directly to the ArcSDE server, I can't find any way of viewing data from ArcIMS.

Thanks,

ArcIMS as a data publisher - it doesn't have its own proprietary database,
rather it uses ESRI's other proprietary db's like SDE and Personal DB
(Access). So whatever IMS site you are viewing the datasource is some kind
of ESRI DB. If it's SDE then Map 6 can connect directly - if it's Personal,
no luck. If it's SHP or coverage you can convert this data to DWG and use
it.

Scott

P.S. - Map 6 does not support Raster in SDE.

That would require the ArcIMS server have the OGC WMS provider
installed, and that Autodesk Map 3D support WMS. I don't think it
supports WMS out of the box (though I could be wrong; that would be
nice) but I've seen at least one 3rd party tool that adds this
functionality to Map 3D. IME UK Ltd.?

Scott,

Can you explain how to connect to an IMS via ArcSDE? I have an IMS connection I'd like to connect to; it is a public website not a personal database.

In fact, the public website is: http://gis2.co.lake.il.us/maps/

I am working in Autocad Civil 3D (and I guess we also have Map 3D within that. I suppose it's an add-on...I'm not sure how all that works either but I think that's not relevant here.)

You're the first person/post I've found who seems to know something about IMSs. In all the searching I've done, I cannot find any definitive statement that one can or cannot connect to an IMS. In fact, I only find mention of it in the discussion forums. It's nowhere else on the Autodesk website.

I hope you can help!

Thanks a bunch,

Anna
