Add style is grayed out. Why?

I am under the Display Manager for Map 3d 2007. I have made a test drawing with 3 layers which all appear below (I attached this drawing and queried the layers) with the addition of the map base layer. When I right click on the each layer to add style the "Add Style" command is grayed out so I can't use it. Does anyone know why?

Never mind it is working now.
Now when I style each layer it doesn't show up in the drawing and I can't turn on and off the layers by checking the boxes in the Display Manager.
Do I have a setting wrong on my computer? Or is it just me?
