Acreages

Hey, y'all. I'm full of newbie questions. Here's another. I'm building parcel maps and creating charts showing breakdowns of acreages of land use per parcel. When I create topologies is it best to create a topology for each landuse type (ie, wetlands, rights-of-way, easments, etc.)? How do I then break out data by parcel number? I'm thinking I have to attach object data to each piece separately, but that seems pretty slow. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Like, for instance, if I want to report acreages for wetlands and rights-of-way parcel by parcel what is the best method? Do I use overlay topology to create new topologies with the land uses broken up into smaller peices where they cross parcel lines or is there an easier way just to report the data? Obviously not everyone on here is working with parcel maps, but maybe some general direction would help me with my particular application. I've been trying to use the tutorials and look this stuff up in the "how-to's" on Autodesk's web site, but I'm having trouble figuring out the particulars for what I'm trying to do.

If your land uses do not overlap, you could create one topology for land
uses and overlay your parcel topology. The resultant topology will give
you the area of the land use by parcel.

Thanks, Rick. I'll try that.

Ok. I'm a little miffed that I can't figure this out... I'm simply trying to generate tables that total acreages and am having trouble figuring out how to get Map to do it. I have several neighborhoods on my plan and want to have my tables show the total acreages of each land use within each neighborhood. I created topologies and assigned the data to each centroid without much trouble. I've figured out how to generate a report by querying the data and sending it out to a file, but I have only been able so far to send a report that shows a separate line for each polygon. How do I lump lines together in the report so that it shows totals by land use within each neighborhood rather than individual acreages for each polygon? I know this must be easy, but I can't figure out what step(s) I'm missing.

If you have the neighborhood name in the underlying tables, you could
export that out with your overlay along with the areas and land use
designation of each polygon. Import into Access and create a query that
groups by neighborhood and land use. I don't think Map alone can do
what you want.
