Acad hatching - converting to ArchGIS

I am helping to convert dwgs to ArchGIS format. I need a little help getting ArchGIS to recognize the hatching in the files. The dwgs are maps with lots of hatched boundaries. Is there an easy way to create the hatching so they can be convered into ArchGIS?

why not just export the hatch boundaries as closed polygon shape files then
specify in ArcView (gis) how you want them to appear. If your hatch
boundaries are on different layers to show different things you can add the
layer as an attribute to the shape file and have ArcView display dependant
upon the layer attribute.

I hope that made sense.

I am having the exact same problem as mentioned below. However some of my hatching boundaries have been deleted (have no idea why) but anyway is there a way around this?

You have to recreate the Hatch boudaries for the hatch that does not have
them. ArcView for some reason does not like hatch. The method John suggested
should work.
