Trying create temporary layer via .NET API

Hi. I need to change stylization of the some feature class in my workflow. I tried to use the example

http://topobaseinsiders.typepad.com/the_topobase_insiders/2009/08/four-color-themer.html

It looks like it should do exactly what i need. But i have one problem))
The layer is created but it has no connection to the data. Where can i see some lessons about that or may be another example.

I think you can take a look into the Platform "SpiderNetwork" sample in the Map 3D SDK.
