Xref send to back in layout (viewport)

Hello,

When i insert a xref in a drawing i always use the command "send to back" in the model space.
However when you switch to the layout the xref sometimes is on top of the symbols in the drawing.
This problem is easy to fix with send to back but when you want to do this you have to set the viewport to modelspace selct your xref and then send to back.
This is easy to do when you only have a few layouts but when you have a couple of layouts with several viewports in each layout it's a very time absorbing job.
Is there any variable to make sure that the xref is always send to back in the layout space.

Peter.

p.s i'm using Autocad LT 2010 Edited by: contacthelmond on Sep 4, 2009 1:41 PM

Right click on the Layout tab. Select Page Setup Manager, Modify, try checking or unchecking Plot Paperspace Last. See if that helps
(Yes I am guessing).

As far as i can tell, there is no such command as "send to back".

My dilemma is, the xref is covering SOME of the drawing. I don't understand how it's on a Layer that you can even SEND back as in Photoshop.  BTW how nice is Adobe where you can just juggle layers?!  Doesn't anyone at AutoDesk ever use GOOD software and see this genius moves?

Anyway, I cannot for the life of me, figure out why this xref is blocking some of my drawing.

Please don't offer advice like "sendtoback" if that is not a genuine command.  It's aggravating.

Hi,

>> As far as i can tell, there is no such command as "send to back".

Incorrect, in AutoCAD as well as in AutoCAD LT the command _DRAWORDER exists and is working well, with all 4 options you can chose.

>> I don't understand how it's on a Layer that you can even SEND back as in Photoshop

That you don't understand it does not mean that others don't understand.

One example is that Photoshop does not know blocks (or similar objects) which can have objects on different layers.

Your mass of posts blaming AutoCAD is annoying, if you don't like AutoCAD then simply don't use AutoCAD, instead create your plans with Photoshop (instead of putting incorrect information's in other threads)

To your question (if it is one)

>> I cannot for the life of me, figure out why this xref is blocking some of my drawing.

What is "this xref" and what do you mean by "blocking some of my drawing" ... if you want to ask questions then please create a new thread, let us know which software release and service pack you are using and describe your issue. The sentence above does not give the supporters here any info that gives us the possibility to help.

Hi @douglas.shortCM2W5

Would you be able to share your drawing file with us?

Thanks.

This is exactly why helpers are not helpful.

Send to back is the "Command" the helper claims to have used.

But actually, he did not, apparently use "send to back", he used draw order.

Granted everyone isn't cut out for teaching, but for those of us who LOATH auto cad, it is NOT helpful at all to say use the command "send to back" when in fact the command is something else.

Imprecise directions are not only not helpful, but exacerbate problems.  We type in "sendtoback" in the command line and it doesn't work resulting in a tailspin of further incomprehension.

SO, for those of you who are so generous and trying to be helpful, thank you--it is wonderful that you are contributing, but your directions must be precise and literal to actually be helpful.

SCNR ... Have you seen, that my answer was not sent as answer to the original poster?

It was an answer to post 6 from (based on some experience from other posts from him/her)

>> it is NOT helpful at all to say use the command "send to back"

If you read my post then please re-read it ... I never wrote "use the command 'send to back'", had I?

>> Imprecise directions are not only not helpful

Correct.

>> SO, for those of you who are so generous and trying to be helpful

Sorry if you don't find my posts helpful
