When opening Autocad LT...

Hello everyone,

I'm requesting your help with a problem I've had for a few weeks now.

Can anybody help me find the reason why, while a dwg file is already open, my pc opens the software a second time to access another file?

I don't understand what happened all of a sudden and why each dwg file I wanna open isn't processed using the same Autocad LT software which is already running.

I thank you in advance for your help.

Regards.

Are you using Windows Explorer to open the second file, or OPEN command from inside AutoCAD?

I simply double click on the file I want to open.

Forgive me, but you did not answer my question, did you not understand it: so I will guess you are doing it from outside AutoCAD and not inside.

What did you recently change, or what did someone change for you? did someone help you fix a problem you had with drawing files not opening in LT by chance?

Sorry for not answering your question.

Sure I can open every dwg file using Autocad's "open" button but this takes longer for me and it's quicker to directly double-click on the file.

I recently downloaded the demo version of Autocad LT 2012 but uninstalled it after a day or 2.

Do you think this can be the reason?

Thank you!

SDI = 0 (zero)?

I'm sorry but I don't understand this ; my knowledge is very limited.

SDI = Single Drawing Interface

1 is on and means you can only open one drawing per ACAD session.

0 is off which means you can open multiple drawings per ACAD session.

Type SDI at the command line and set it to 0 (zero) to be able to open multiple drawings in single ACAD session

Helpful tip #237:

Use CTRL+TAB to toggle between multiple open drawings in the session.  Smiley Happy

OP you may also want to check in explorer to see if the command to open a drawing is acad.exe, or is it launcher.exe (the correct one)...

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted 🙂

Hello all and thank you for your help.

I find it strange that the "SDI 0" option doesn't seem to work.

To make sure I'm doing the right thing :

I type "SDI" in the command line then press "enter"

Then "0" then "enter".

Is that correct?

If so, it isn't working for me.

About the lauching option, I haven't tried it as I don't know how.

I told you I'm very bad at this!!
