if i purchase a new version of auto cad lt will i nees to remove the old one first? what will happen to all of my settings?

There is an external command you can use called "Migrate Custom Settings"

At the Windows desktop. Click on Start. Then move to Programs and then Autocad. In there find your version of Autocad and you should find a sub menu which says as above.

In that menu you will find facilities for exporting and importing your custom settings.
