In the drawing your working, are there perhaps any proxy/AEC objects?
Any third party software been involved in the drawing?
From own experience this sometimes is the case for me when trim and other similar commands behave strangely.
If it really causes a problem for you, you can try AECTOACAD if the drawing contains AEC or Proxy objects, you can also try Wblocking.
Also, check so there aren't any hidden objects that Autocad snaps/trims to.
AcadAdamLT - unsure if there are any proxy/Aec objects? There could be as I have had proxy warnings in the past on cad. No third party software involved.
I assume that AECTOACAD and Wblocking are commands in full version of cad and not LT? - These are 'Unknown' commands in LT.
Pendean - I have tried your suggestion but still have the same issue. The trim command works fine for 80% of the time within the drawing and the issue comes up intermittently.
Thanks,
Daryl
yes - same issue. The line trims back approx. 100mm to thin air! i.e. not to an object that I can see. tried your suggestion in views panel but could not see anything that it could be trimming back to.
-EXPORTTOAUTOCAD and AECTOACAD coming up as unkown command on my LT 2014 - see attached photo.
Could the drawing have been done in 3D originally, it sounds like your objects are at different elevations and your ucs is not level with the drawing, try typing 'UCS' followed by 'VIEW' and then try the trim command again, can you post the drawing so someone can check it.
Your LT2014 installation is not correct: those are core AutoCAD commands that have been around for a while.
Post a DWG with this object and issue still in place: we don't need your entire file, a WBLOCK will work, but you need to confirm the problem is still there and provide instructions in it on how to replicate it.
And you probably ought to plan on repairing/reinstalling LT2014 at some point then fully updating/patching it: who knows what else is missing (assuming you did not Migrate from an ancient version to LT2014 at some point).
Agree with steven-g......sounds like the trim line Z co-ordinate might not be on 0,00. Maybe a case for the FLATTEN command!
list the lines involved and check to see if their z value is 0.0
play with the command edgemode. It has settings that could cause some of the effects you're describing. At least in earlier versions. See help for the setting choices and what each does.
That's all I got. Good luck.
Hi Daryl,
As the other posters have mentioned, this sounds like an issue with UCS, elevations, EDGEMODE, or maybe the Project option of TRIM. As Dean suggested posting all or part of the drawing would be the best way for the rest of us to troubleshoot this. If you could indicate which line in the drawing you can reproduce this with (maybe change the color and width and tell us what to look for), that would also be helpful.
Thanks
Thanks to all that have replied. I have attached the offending file. Try and trim the red line back to green line..... so frustrating!
Daryl
Looking a bit closer, I used the trim command without selecting objects (just double enter to select all) and it did provide some odd results. I think it has something to do with the large numbers. Moving the geometry closer to the Origin cleared up the issues. Unless you need the objects to be 16 billion kilometers from the origin, it is much easier on the system to have things closer to zero.
Many thanks Steven-g

This also worked for me! Unsure why the geometry was so far away from 0,0 origin to start with (must have been some error by operator!).
Thank you,
Daryl
