Save not permitted in AutoCAD LT 2014

AutoCAD LT 2014 will occasionally display an error message when I attempt to manually save (QSAVE) a drawing.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

What's the exact error message?
Where are you saving the file to when that happens?

Thank you for your post. I cannot recall the exact wording of the error
message, but I will try to get you a screen shot of it the next time it
occurs.

Regarding the location of my file, I am saving the file to "Local Disk (C:).
Other than the length of the file path (i.e., fairly large number of
characters), I do not think there is anything unusual about the location. I
have worked with AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT for a long time and I have never had
this error to my knowledge.

Thanks for your interest. I will get back to you soon.

There have been a number of people reporting this and has happened to me on several occasions.

Most recently the error has been the the File is read only and therefore cannot be saved.

Clicking on Save again after this occurs usually completes an ordinary Save.

Not sure if this is a LT 2014 general error that will be corrected with the first SP or just a general AutoCAD ongoing error.

I have never had this happen before; only now with the LT 2014 install.

Charles,

I have received the "read only" error as well and I have also been able to
simply "save" again to complete a save. However, when the save error is not
the "read only" type, AuotCAD LT appears to remove the file from the
original location. I have been able to get around this by saving the file
to my desktop and then saving back to the correct/desired location.

Thank you for your reply. I will provide the actual error message once it
happens again.

Exact same save procedure that I was doing. Save to Desktop then back to the original folder.

This only happened to me that the file was being removed from the Original folder.

Have you tried a hard re-boot or as this been ongoing?

Charles,

This problem has been ongoing, starting with the installation of AutoCAD LT
2014. I have never rebooted just because of this problem, but the I do shut
down my computer every day. Since the problem is recurring I do believe
rebooting provides any help.

Thanks!

You did know that there is a 255 character limit on path/ filenames ... right?

Yes, I am aware of the limit on file names. On the rare occasion when I
inadvertently exceeded the limit, I receive a warning and I am subsequently
required to shorten the file name. The file names I am using have been used
without issue with previous versions of AutoCAD LT.

I finally have a screen shot of the error message.  I hope this will help shed some light on the problem

Thanks,

Steve

I also made a screen shot of the files created when the save error occurs.  The only file originally at this location other than the pdf folder was the *.bak file.  I have never noticed anything like this before.

The error message means your Windows Log-in does not have full read/write/rename/delete priviliges to that folder/location.

When you save, AutoCAD creates a TMP file, deletes the BAK file, renames the DWG file to BAK, then renames the TMP file to DWG.

Something outside is preventing it from renaming the TMP file to DWG: there is nothing inside the program to fix it, sorry.

Agreed but LT 2014 is the first time in this particular save error has ever happened to me.

I disabled Autodesk 360 and have not had the problem since.  It appears that Autodesk 360 is at the root of the problem.

The 360 team is catching a lot of flack on many fronts.
