Restore from bak file

I have renamed a .bak file with a new name and changed the .bak to a .dwg extension. File type listed in Explorer is not changing from bak, nor will renamed file open.

You need to turn on file extensions in Windows Explorer in order to see an
change them: they are by default hidden.

Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options, look for a list in one of the tabs or
areas. Tap Windows Help if needed.

Dear Dean Thank you for helping. The file was compounded by a .bak.dwg extension. I have it open but all I see is a small dot. I have tried everything I know to scale it up. I have zoomed extents, erased the screen after removing the dot and it still will not scale up. Plse help a little more. This was the same problem with the original dwg file so we went to a bak to restore it. Thanks Tatum

Tatumgressette1814,

Have you tried looking in for the drawing in the location on your computer where it save all 'Automatic Saves', which is general in your C:\documents and settings\garsp\local settings\temp. Note the 'garsp' is my username yours will be different. You can also find this link under the tool menu then options, select the files tab, then under the 'Automatic Save File Location' you will find a path copy and paste that into the address bar then just scroll through you should find .dwg, .bak files in there.

Zoom>Window

>>>...This was the same problem with the original dwg file ...<<<
Your file is empty if that is true: dwg file size? Post it if you want.

Hope you can see the small dot. It is definitely there, like an over scaled image.

I did a Zoom > Extents and deleted 4-5 "dots" on the left of my screen and then a crossing deletion of a "dot(s)" on the right side. Another Zoom > Extents and got this. Might be luck that this drawing was not one of the "dots" I deleted.
Is this the missing drawing?
These "dots" were about a Parsec away from the drawing. 😉

Got it guys! TX a million for the help. Thanks to all for taking the hex off the dwg. My computer tried to open 3 times by using LT2004 and couldn't do it-then for some reason on the 4th attempt it (on its own) used our seat of LT2009 and it opened right up. I could have sworn I used both 04 & 09 in trying to open it before. Thanks again!
