OSnap

When I, for example, stretch one object to another, having Object Snap on makes it snap to an OSnap point just by having my curser over the second object. That is to say, if I have it to snap to midpoint, it'll snap to midpoint even if I'm nowhere near the midpoint, or if I'm trying to snap to the grip point on the end. Also, trying to move anything near text snaps to the insertion point (and I use that too much to want to turn it on and off every time). Is there any way to disable this, or make it so that it waits until I'm close to the snap point before it warps me over?

Yeah, I know. Originally, this thread was about "Can you change that setting", and now it's "Can we please get some new functionality". I want it to be pixels from the point, not pixels from the object.

I see. I did hear of a wish list at Autodesk somewhere, maybe you can
send them an email and get it added!

I would love to, but I can't find it and I can't find an Autodesk e-mail address.

Osnaps are about the objects, not the points, always have been. Your fix
would screw up the millions of AutoCAD users doing it differently.

www.augi.com for the wishlist.

You're handicapped by LT's limited programming ability too: full AutoCAD,
individual osnaps and different sets are only a key or two away. Like I
said, you are swimming uphill against all other established AutoCAD users
with your desired 'fix'.

Try a different tact: wishlist a toggle to do it one way or another. And no,
what you seek needs to be written into the core of the product, not as an
add-on. but if it could, it would be done in full AutoCAD and not LT from a
3rd party vendor, easier to program.

Well, since the concensus in my drafting lab is that AutoCAD is a pain-in-the-butt that sometimes seems designed to make you want to beat your head into the wall (if you've ever tried to hatch a bunch of objects into one single hatch, and had half of your selections ignored, you know what I mean), and that my proposal is "pretty reasonable", I won't worry too much about bothering the other established users, especially since what I wanted is just an option, not a re-working.

As for AutoCAD LT, yeah, I know, it's limited. Our lab uses everything from LT to Civil 3d, and LT just doesn't have the features that the "big-boy" software does. When I did my training on Mechanical Desktop, I learned to love features that make LT look like MS Paint. I will defer to your wisdom as someone who makes add-ons, but seriously, I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel here. My desired "fix" is not a big change, just an increase in functionality and customisation.

I mean, it already has the "Snap if you're within a few pixels of a snap point" functionality built in... it's called Magnet. If I'm outside magnet range, I don't want my snaps to trigger. Is that really so hard to program?

I too have found osnaps somewhat awkward causing
a lot of ESC and backtracking. I think the
override options like NEA, MID etc should
be triggered by one letter keystrokes when in
point selection mode so that OSNAP can be
left off most of the time.

Well, as they said earlier, you can just toggle them on and off with F3 if that's what you're looking for. Or you can use the OSnap menu bar for one-shot snaps.

try another Cad program if LT or AutoCAD don't meet your needs: wish they
all were perfect, but you will simply trade in one problem for another.

>>>... LT just doesn't have the features that the "big-boy" software
>>>does...<<<
Well, yes, LT is the entry level and for +$3000 more money you get Mech
Desktop. You get what you pay for in any product line in any industry on the
planet.

I understand your wish, it's a valid one, hope it gets noticed eventually.
