Moving from ACAD R14 to ACAD LT - Layer Manager

I have a friend who is upgrading from ACAD R14 to ACAD LT. He needs to have the ability to manage his layers like the Layer Manager (Bonus Tools). Is there a way to do that? Filtered layers seems pretty similar, but doesn't seem to correspond. His Layer Manager settings are embedded in the job file, but don't seem to come across.

He works with everything stacked up and moves between Layer Manager sets to see what he's doing. It's a crazy way to work, but he's done it this way for 20 years and I'd like to help.

tl;dr How do I bring Layer Manager to ACAD LT?

LMAN died and went away and got replaced with LAYERSTATES in both LT and full AutoCAD.

Will Layer Manager settings appear as Layer States or does he need to start over?

All new and different: I believe they are "converted" but I'm not sure about how well, it's been a very long time since LMAN was around.
