Moving from AC2012/Win7 to AC2017 LT/Win 10. Differences/Glicthes.

I have been using AC 2012 on a Win 7 machine. I've now decided to transition to Win 10.  My computer is now dual boot while I do this. I've added an additional SSD drive hosting Win 10 and a trial version of AC 2017 LT.  I've almost got AC configured as I'd like it, but I'm discovering glitches and/or differences that do not work for me.

1. AC2017 LT takes much longer to SAVE. In AC2012/Win 7, saves are quarter the time.

2. It takes forever to plot to PDF with the Dwg to PDF compared to AC2012/Win7.
When it does plot the PDF, it does not display it after completion. "Display in Viewer" in PDF Options is checked. 

A PDF plot in AC2012/Win7 displays the finished plot in Acrobat. (Which is also installed on the Win 10 Drive)

3. Often the cursor disappears for moments.

4. In AC2012/Win7 I can select a hatch separately and change it's layer without it affecting the boundary.  In AC2107/Win 10 the hatch and boundary are one.

e.g. I draw a rectangle on layer 0. I fill it with a hatch on layer HATCH. In AC2012/Win7 I can select that hatch and move it to layer HACTH2, but the boundary stays on layer 0. In AC2017/Win 10 both the hatch and Boundary are changed to HATCH2.  This greatly affects my work flow. I'm sure there is some switch to rectify this. I just can't find it.

Relating to this, in AC2017/Win 10 the Properties of a hatched object offers much fewer options. In AC2012/Win 7 I have much more. Like the ability to change HATCH SCALE through properties.

There are other problems items I have not listed as these are the most pressing for my work.

Overall, my programs are much faster in Windows 10 with the exception of AC2017 LT. Any ideas/suggestions?

1. where are you saving to? are you trying to maintain the old 2010dwg file format? that's a translation process, not a simple 'save', and if you have compatibility options selected it's even slower.

2. Did you use the migration tool when you started or installed LT2017 to try and capture 2012 items? That usually is troublesome too. You'll need to reset LT2017 to factory settings and confirm the problem goes away.

3. LT2017 is demanding on hardware: what is your mouse driver? what is your video card driver version number? Unlike 2012, 2017 uses hardware acceleration, have you turned all of that off so it acts more like 2012 yet? GRAPHICSCONFIG is the command name, uncheck everything on the pop-up that appears.

4. You have that option to deselect in the HATCH command in 2017 as it is in 2012: you need to separate the hatch from it's boundary. have a look, screenshot both pop-ups from both programs and stare at the differences. You might want to turn of HPQUICKPREVIEW in 2017 as well, it's not in 2012.

I am opening and saving all files on a built in 1TB data drive that both systems access. Yes, I am saving to 2010 so my files are accessible from both systems. I will experiment and see if that is a major effect. I don't know you mean by "compatibility options." Nothing I remember doing on the install.

I used 2012 to export my workspace. I then imported that workspace into the new install of 2017.

I use a Wacom Sapphire CTE430 tablet/mouse. It is an older unit. I've also just discovered that AMD does not list a WIN 10 driver for my FirePro Video card. The current driver is 15.201.1151.1008 dated 11/4/15.  I have not turned off Hardware acceleration. Shouldn't leaving that on make things better?

I am afraid to reset 2017 to default. Will my workspace be lost?  Before I do that, as a test, I  installed AC 2017 LT on my MS Surface tablet. I have not added or changed anything. Both installations on the Surface and the Desktop print incorrectly (Half size and incorrect rotation) on our HP T2300. However, the Surface does not have the speed slow down experienced on the desktop. PDFs are instant and immediately display through Acrobat.  They take minutes on the Desktop and do not display. I'm not sure what is responsible for the print problem? Windows 10, HP's Windows 10 driver, or LT 2017, or a combination. I've posted this problem to HP also.

I just generated a pdf from 2017 LT on the Surface and that printed correctly from Acrobat. However printing from AC2017 does not. This would suggest it is not the drive but conflict with 2017 LT.

A reset does not affect your DWG files: but then you should be backing these up anyway to have a second and third copies somewhere else. Are you risking it all by not backing up?

- Can you plot to PDF from LT2017 without any scaling issues from the problem PC?
- Or plot to DWF? or PLOT to something else?
- Is this a problem in ALL files, or just this one file?
- What's different about the driver settings on the second machine compared to the first one? Open those WIndows drivers, put both screens side-by-side and compare. Something is different between the two computers, dig a lot deeper.

Thanks, but I wasn't concerned with my DWG files, it was my customizations. Anyway, I've reset the program which then recommended and upgraded video driver for my Video card. I installed that and created a new file from 2017 and have not used anything from my 2012 installation.

Yes. I can and have plotted PDFs from both installations on my Win 10 Surface and Win 10 Desktop. They print correctly from Acrobat.

Yes. From two different files I drew from my templates, and one from the reset 2017 LT.

I can find no differences. But I'll check again.

You never EVER want a simple task as a software reset or a system hiccup or system failure to leave you high-and-dry like that. Your clients will not care, they will move on to a competitive service provider like me instead for their CAD/Design needs 🙂

If LT2017 doesn't create the same plotting error in PDF then the problem is with the driver. You need both driver settings (and any PC3 files you may be using) on both screens side-by-side (since one is a tablet) and you look at them closely.

Start with the driver version. Then scaling settings. Then auto-rotate settings. These are all driver override options. You have one or more of them different on the troublesome PC. Then double-cleck your PLOT pop-up settings on bot devices.

You might need HP support to walk you through resetting drivers to defaults. Your issue has nothing to do with LT1017 if it's not an overlooked PLOT pop-up settings.

I have solved the problem but I don't know how.  I have loaded and reloaded drivers of all types and tried all suggestions from here,  HP, and other forums. I did as you suggested regarding comparing driver/print settings. The working Win7/2012 driver is different from the Win 10 and has several differences/options. At any rate, the problem seems associated with rotation. Why the driver scales the drawing down when rotated I don't know.

At any rate, I appreciate your effort, and now that AC2017 LT is a viable I can fully transition to my Windows 10 system.
