Missing Upgrade?

Back in December 2013 I downloaded the trial version of 2014LT, which I noticed was offering an upgrade within its own notification area on the top tab. At the time I was unable to access this as I was only using it as a trial version.  In January I paid in full for the product, and once the activation code had been installed I was able to download the update.

I have this week had to purchase a new laptop, and I have loaded 2014LT onto it. However, there is no sign of any upgrade this time and the notification tab informs me I am upto date.  How come?

I have just installed the CAD disc onto a new machine. whats that about?

On top of that, the number of issues I am having with the product, in terms of screen freeze and it making various files write protected on its own is frustrating. I am running windows 8 with a fully licensed CAD product which is meant to be compatible but I seem to have nothing but grief.

Was this product fully tested before release? Is there going to be an update to address the 8.1 issue? Is there an update for windows 8?

Help!

When you installed the package on your new laptop there is a box that indicates to install updates as well. So the box would be selected by default so it automatically installed the updates.

I am not 100% certain of your other questions. As far as I know as soon as you upgrade to Windows 8.1 then none of the Autodesk software packages wants to work. So I would rather not go there for now until there is a fix for it.

You can also manually go check for updates at the following link: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240818#section1

Please have a look at these links that will help speeding up AutoCAD.

Updates and patches for all LT versions are here, help yourself anytime you want them: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240818

same for AutoCAD (full?) here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240618

latest updates for both programs for Win8 are included in those links.

Write-protection errors are no controlled by the program: those are OS or Server based access issues for the most part. When AutoCAD cannot read-write-dlete-rename a file it presents you with that message.

"Screen freezes" is too vague for a reply: be more specific or try all the aptches/updates on offer for both programs. Changing hardware acceleration settings in both programs as well as acquiring better/newer video card drivers may help too.

There is no formal announcements for Win8.1 although the method in which Win8.1 installs does break AutoCAD/LT for some users, which requires a complete removal of all Autodesk products, updating video card drivers in the newly Win8.1 PC/laptop, then reinstalling all AutoCAD versions. Stay away for now.

Thanks for the message on twitter. I do not like AutoCAD LT at all but thats probably because I have been using the full version for a while now. There will hopefully be a service pack out to fix the windows 8.1 issue soon. I am not sure how my IT guy managed to get mine fixed but it took him 2days.

you are welcome, Re the Twitter message.Until December I was using full blown AutoCAD (2007) But faced with many PC issues I went for the cheaper option of LT. hmmmm. The rest as they say, is history.
