Memory could not be read

I have a user who is running AutoCAD LT 2002 on a new Dell Latitude 620. He can open the program and work in it for a little while, but eventually he will get the following error:

The instruction at “0x73dd11c7” referenced at memory “0x00000004”. The memory could not be “read”

The program then closes and he loses all his work.

Any thoughts???

Sounds like bad system RAM: contact Dell for replacement and
other tests.

AutoCAD is the only program that causes the memory error. All other program run just fine...(ie., Office 2003, VPN apps, other mapping tools).

Test and find out, and contact Dell Support.

AutoCAD is not a low resource user like your other programs
and this would have shown up on your other PCs if it was an
AutoCAD issue, don't you think?

This could be any of several things. It could be a setup issue on the
laptop. It could be that the laptop doesn't have enough memory
installed. It may be an issue with the "shared memory" video. It may
be a memory leak in some other program that's running. It may be that
there's some interaction between a five year old program and the latest,
greatest version of Windows. It may be that there are a dozen
background programs running that don't leave enough memory for Autocad.

The Latitude 620 has a lot of configuration options. If you could
provide the specs for the laptop you have we might be able to help more.

The specs for the laptop are:

2.0Ghz Core Duo
1Gb RAM
60Gb 7,200 RPM Hard Drive
256 MB Video Card
I think that is all that is relevant.

I have ran a full check on the memory with Dell, and have ran a repair on the install for AutoCAD. He is getting an error that says:

Internal error: GEDIT3

Then he gets the memory error.

I found this discussion group while searching for an answer to the exact same error message:

The instruction at "0x73dd11c7" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".

Here are the main differences. The error message on appears while using a graphics display program called ACD See version 5.0 and my computer is a new desktop that I just put together. Specs below.
OS is Windows XP Professional.
Cooler Master (Praetorian 732) ABS Stealth black anodized aluminum case.
SuperMicro PDSLE (server type) motherboard
Intel Pentium D (Presler) Dual Core 3.4 GHz CPU 2x2 MB L2 Cache
Front side bus: 800 MHz
Cooler Master Hyper 48 KHC-L91 CPU fan
2 GB Patriot DDR2 667 SDRAM PC5300 1.8 volt memory
Thermotake Toughpower 650W Power Supply with Active PFC
Sapphire X1600XT 256 MB PCI-Express X16 Graphics Card
Iomega 250 MB ZIP Drive (in place of 3.5” floppy)
Western Digital Caviar 250 GB SATA Hard Drive WD2500KS
Western Digital Caviar 160 GB SATA Hard Drive WD1600JS
Plextor DVD SATA burner PX-755SA (internal)
Plextor CD burner PX-230A (internal)
Sony 21-inch Monitor GDM-F500R .22mm dot pitch
Logitech Optical Mouse

Hope this is not too much info but the error message is a frequent concern. The ACD See program closes but can always be restarted.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ironsides

Hi, I and another friend have identical problems on new dell latitude D830 laptops. 2 G of ram so plenty of spare. No problems on previous dell laptop running xp sp2 also. the new laptop is a duo centrino don't know if that's significant? I've had a hunt around other forums and looks like its a common problem.

Any ideas?

Go to google.com, then Dell's support website, then
http://support.autodesk.com

At both locations, in their respective search boxes, type your error message
exactly as it appears on screen.

There is your fix, if any, if it's not generic to be a system error.
