Measuring blocks with the List command

Is there any way to create a block that you can scale using the list command? All that I get is the name of the block and the properties of the block. We have drawings with item numbers so that we can price the individual components and we need a faster way to get the measurements of each item (lenth and width) without using the Linear dimension command every time. Other people in the office use the List command and they are unable to get dimensions with this command and they gave me the job of finding a better way to improve this. Can someone give a different way of doing this? Thank you in advance for your time.
