LT2008 regeneration after each type of save

I am having a problem that I cannot find an answer for using LT 2008:

Whenever I save, save as, or the system runs an automatic save, a drawing regeneration takes place without my prompting it to. It is super annoying as it takes up to 30 seconds for some files to regenerate… and I have my automatic save increments set at every 5 minutes for security reasons. You can imagine how many minutes a day I lose to this. What setting do I need to change to resolve this? I’ve already repaired and reinstalled the software and all migrateable settings from my previous version of LT2006 have been successfully migrated. I still have LT2006 and this doesn't happen. Thanks for any and all help!

whatever you migrated may be the problem: something we avoid here, so
called auto-migration that who knows what it picks up. If you are
organized, you can do it yourself in less than 3-minutes after
upgrading. Reinstall might just fix it.

Otherwise, I've not noticed a regen at all during a save in anything
2008 version (LT, plain autocad or Architectural AutoCAD) and what you
describe sounds more like a system with low RAM instead.
Is your HD light on the whole time you are saving on your PC? Is
Windows reporting a massive amount of system resources being used? Is
your anti-virus/anti-spam/firewall apps scanning LT2008 when they did
not LT2006?

like i mentioned before, this did not happen in LT2006. i have a xeon processor and 2Gb of Ram on a 15,000rpm scsi drive. i don't think resources is the issue. With a few other programs running and a 7Mb file open, only .8Gb is being used. i have not specified that the anti-virus/anit-spam/firewall apps scanning scan through LT2008, not to mention that i do not have anti-spam software. it did not for LT2006.

If Autodesk has Auto-migration tools, then why do you avoid using it. Shouldn't Autodesk know what to migrate? So, i will try the Reinstallation... again, and not migrate anything. Thanks, for now.

Auto-migration in AutoCAD upgrades have normally caused more
problems for heavy customizers than for light-users, you
decide which one you are and what you are willing to do.

i am pretty customized... but not that many settings migrated in the first place. i had to set up a lot again. i've already uninstalled and reinstalled and it didn't fix it. So, is there any other thing i can try or is there going to be any kind of "hot fix" or something to help me out? I've even gone back to working on LT2006 sometimes.

Poster boy,

Post a drawing you can do that right!

Your system variables tell a 1000 stories and there are new one's
in 2008 that might need tweaking for you..

Regards Gary.

i do not have a DWG file small enough. Does it matter if it is a new file with only a few lines? or do you need a drawing that has a lot of various object types?

thank you for the time in helping me resolve this.

PB,

Just a very small drawing will do!

It contains all of your variable settings so that will be fine.

Although I suspect that you might have been using the draw order
on a few objects in the drawing.

i've tried sending a dwg and a zip folder, both under 1.2Mb. i keep getting an "error reading uploaded file (0)."

well, i seemed to have solved the issue. it has to do with the annotative scaling visibility. when i swithced the button on the lower right of the screen from showing only one scale of annotated objects to showing all annotative objects, it resolved two things: it doesn't regenerate after each type of save; and it all objects show up in both model space and paperspace through viewports where before, some things showed up on model space only and some showed up in paperspace through viewports only. who knew???

i hope this helps other people as well.

thanks.

Thanks for that posterboy.

The system variable controlling this is ANNOALLVISIBLE for those macro
lovers.

yeah, this only resolves the issue of auto-regeneration while in model space. the issue still stands in paperspace. the disappearing annotative object issue resolved.

any further help on auto-regeneration in paperspace would be a great help.

Thank you! the regeneration issue still stands in paperspace.
any further help on auto-regeneration in paperspace would be a great help. i lose 10 seconds after each save which happens every 5 minutes... after 8 hours that's a few minutes of precious wasted time!

Thank you!
