Layer Visibility

The version of the software I am using AutoCAD LT 2002. My experience with
the software is just below novice.

Here is what is happening:

I received .dwg files from my client. When I open the files what I see is
not what I need. When I open the layer control window there are many layers
but only a few of which seem visible even though they are ALL checked as
visible in the layer control menu. Now when I filter by "Show All Used
Layers" most of the layers are omitted from the list. How do I "use" the
layers that are "not used" or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thank you,

Joe

If a layer is unused then it hasn't got anything to see in it anyway. They are just available if you want to add stuff onto those layers. What exactly is it you think you should be seeing when you open the file, this might give a clue to how to help you.

Contact your client, make sure you got ALL the files you need, then in your
file check for the XREFs if any and make sure they are loaded.

If your client is using AutoCAD, have them use eTransmit command as a way to
send you their files.

The problem is the only layers that are available (or visible on the

just want to view the floor layout and don’t care about the electrical

checked visible.  Does this
help?

... and make sure all layers are thawed/on, REGEN all, go to Modelspace and
Zoom Extents.

If you still cannot figure it out, you will need to post a sample file so
that we can better eliminate any OE issues.
