icon size on toolbar is too small

I prefer to work from toolbars on the right side and bottom of the screen.  I'm finding the icon size to be much too small and it's slowing up my work because I can't discern one from the other -- and yes, I am wearing my glasses.  Is there anything I can do to increase the size?

Hi,

Have you tried Options-> Display tab -> check-mark "Use large buttons"?

The aspect Ratio of your Windows environment can be a solution as well.

Though this will also affect every other program you have.

That only makes SOME icons bigger, but not the tool bars.  The Command line text gets so large you can't read what it says.  If you do something like, "Modify Properties" the text is so big that the lines are all stacked on top of each other.

This is NOT the solution.

Change your Windows display settings: and remember the lower the resolution and the larger your screen is the larger everything appears.

That IS the solution.

This does not fix the tool bars. It DOES affect the fixed things (command line and above/below the working window). Even the "help window has TINY fonts! (Like 2-4 pts).

Hi @JanneZack

I understand your frustration. If you'd like I can log your experience as defect with our development team.

I will need some additional information to add to your case.

  • Can I get a few screenshots?
  • Your AutoCAD release(s) that you are having this issue with?
  • System specs? Win version? Monitor make/model?

I'd be happy to assist you with this as well. Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

None of the proposed "solutions" from tech support improved graphics. This is very frustrating and continues to slow up my work.

After much back and forth and kicking the problem to executives, Autodesk finally admitted that the cause is a programming incompatibility with Windows 10 and computers with high-resolution screens. They are working on fixes but they won't be available until the new version next year (hopefully).

As Microsoft partners they surely knew this would be an issue when Windows 10 was in development. Similarly, high-res screens aren't exactly new. They dropped the ball!

What's far worse is that their tech support people continue to treat customers like this is some weird problem they never heard of!!!! They should man up and own their mistake.

Hi @corriere

It's a problem that I'm aware of because I see it often enough in the forums. It is a an issue that is being worked on. But as for myself I don't have any control of changing code or the product but am willing to help in anyway I can.

I was once a drafter like yourself and when I say I understand your frustration, the feelings of irritation are not lost on me.

I will do some digging and see what I can find for you on other possible workarounds. As of now the best that I can do for you is to log your feedback and issue with our development team. If you'd like we can go ahead and escalate this case to attach it to an existing defect number.

Should this issue be addressed in a service pack sooner rather than later I will do my best to create a proactive post for you and the rest of the other user's in this community.

Have a great weekend.

Thank you. I would be happy to provide some screenshots if that would help. It's really bizarre!

This is very disappointing! I just dropped a mint in a new computer and decided to bite the bullet and jump off the Windows 10 cliff! Great! Now what do I do!!!!???

I tried all the suggestions. They only messed up OTHER programs and did not help AutoCAD at all!!! Not a happy camper here.

Yes I have just purchased new computer and my toolbars are so small I can not get anything down. Also my command line text is so large even at the lowest font setting. Also half the screen is not visible as my drsawing does not show where the lines of command were at in the window. Frustrating.

If you use AutoCAD/LT2017 then Go grab the 2017.1 update (see the "point one" in the name) from your active subscription-only updates page https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Read about it here Read about it here: http://blogs.autodesk.com/autocad/autocad-2017-fall-update/

Otherwise AutoCAD 2016 and lower were not designed for high-res monitors. It only runs on displays set to 1920x1080 (also try 2560x1440 and up to 2560x1600 if you have that option) and at 100% text scaling (no more than 125% text scaling). It will not look good on 4k displays settings on modern PCs and laptops 😞

Your not alone and I have the same problem. I solved one problem of 1/3 my screen not showing the drawing by turning off graphics acceleration by using GRAPHICSCONFIG. Now my screen looks normal and all up to speed except the toolbars that I open, such as OBJECT_SNAP, and dock on the side of my screen. These toolbars speed up my work greatly and I feel frustrated learning to use another method of accomplishing my tasks. All toolbars on top are OK but these toolbars that "Float" are so small they are hardly usable. Changing settings in windows does nothing but make all my other engineering programs look and run different.

This must be an industry wide issue and is probably costing the community millions of dollars of lost man hours. It will be a shame to go back to my slower machine just to get work done faster and then change to the new machine to do my 3D Rhino renderings with the high resolution screen that is standard on most all laptops today.

Yes I am a Subscription user and am running 2017 and have ran the 2017.1 update. It seemed to fix it once but after a restart it is back to same problem. I do appreciate all your suggestions and have tried them all. Some helped and some did not.

Thanks for all your input.

I'm not seeing this issue with 2017.1 update: can you run the update installation again and see if it says it's installed or not?
Message 19 of 21

in reply to: pendean

Yes I did run the 2017.1 English update and it gives me a dialog box with option to repair. I did the repair and still have the issue with toolbars I open such as object_snap or zoom and those icons are smaller than the installed toolbars at the top. when I open AutoCAD the initial autocad startup logo screen looked larger and I thought it was fixed but when program came up still same issue. If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to call.
