having problems with the erase command

AutoCad Lt 2004 only lets me select one line at a time when I'm try to pick multiple line to erase. I know you can window crossing but I'm trying to select small object real close to other objects so I do not want to use crossing or a box. In AutoCad Lt 2000 I could type e for erase and pick as many line as I wanted too to erase. I try the same in AutoCad Lt 2004 and it only lets me select one object. Can anyone help me? Nick
