HATCH-slow analysing data

when drawing in autocad lt 2007, i try hatching a simple area and it seems to take an age to analyse the data before it recognises the area.

is this a common problem?

is their anything i can do to irradicate this problem?

Post some computer specs for a start to help.

if you click inside an area, as opposed to selecting a closed boundary,
everything on your screen is analyzed by AutoCAD to identify the boundary.
Everything. And if you turn off instead of freezing layers, it analyzes
those off layers content too.

Nature of the program.

Low PC specs and overly busy drawing file may contribute as well.
