MC,
I understand you frustration however not being able to access anything means
you are locked in
to the current situation.
Gedit-3 has been roaming in and out of LT since at least 2002 depending on
the service pack.
Some service packs and releases have the problem other do not. I know why
this is but I cannot disclose
this information here.
Norton's A.V triggers the problem but is not the ultimate cause. I have
written to them to help
solve the problem but they choose to ignore the emails.
The meaning of gedit-3 well the Acad command set can only handle 3 running
commands at any given time.
E.G start a copy command them run a transparent command such as 'zoom then
another 'cal the next one
breaks the camels back. In acad you are warned of this however if something
else starts the count outside Acad
then the only option for acad is to crash out with the dreaded Gedit-3
error.
Now the problem is Norton's is getting you of to a flying start in the
sequence of events using up probably two
of the 3 possible command in the queue. You copy or move will not be the
problem but the next transparent
command (inside that command) will be.
I can offer you some free software that will fix the problem for you however
considering your current lock
down situation you probably would not be allowed to install it.

I've already seen and read that thread (as well as many others) and I must
be extremely honest, I cannot imagine that there is not a more simplistic
resolution to a known problem since 2002 LT. To suggest to folks, who pay
license fees for this product, to troubleshoot by process of application
elimination, bypassing corporate network and security policies is not
exactly what I am seeking.
I am a bit beyond looking at my firms' network or apps as a 'culprit' to an
AutoCAD problem. Our network is large and global in nature and may not be
one that can bend in it's setup.
Can the focus for Autodesk be on offering a version of LT that works
regardless of the environment it's installed in? It seems to me that
AntiVirus and other similar monitoring apps will not be going away.
My apologies for the rant but I've had this issue for quite some time and no
real solution that is palatable.
Thanks, MC
