Freezing layers

Dear All,

I'm sure you're all familiar with the method for turning off layers in viewports, whilst leaving them visible in other viewports and MS.

I'd like to do the opposite.

I have just one viewport, out of 30ish that need some particular layers shown. Is there a way to turn the layer off (inclu. MS) but then turn it on in just one viewport?

Hmmm... any ideas would be appreciated.

Make a toolbar button to turn off the layer in the viewport and then use it
in each one. I don't think you can turn it off in model space.

A better option may be to put the layer content in paperspace if you only
need it once.

Draw your entities in the Layout, not Modelspace perhaps.

Try just working in your viewports, stay out of modelspace: in LT2005 and
higher, select a viewport and use the Maximize Viewport option (two blue
rectangles and a dotted red box and arrow button image at the bottom of your
LT screen), and explore this new POWER in drafting. Skip all that jumping
from model to layout where possible.

Thanks to you both,

I must admit I hadn't thought of just drawing in the layout. (sometimes the simplest solutions are the best)

And I'll have to get used to using the Maximise VP command a bit more. Still feels a bit alien...

How about moving the detail in the layer you want on in just the one viewport say for example 100m (units whatever) to the side of the rest of your detail (make it a nice easy number so you can move it back easily if you need to) then redefining your view. You should then only have that detail in your viewport and it wont show in any of your other 30 viewports.
(sorry if this is cheating too much).

It takes a while to get used to, but then you will get used to it and enjoy
it. It took me about a week of full time use.

Dear All,

Apologies for the delayed response.

No such thing as cheating too much!!

It is a different approach to the problem, but as long as it serves its purpose I guess...

Cheers

TRY TO FREEZE THE LAYERS THAT YOU DON'T WANT FROM THAT PARTICULAR VIEWPORT. IT SHOULD WORK.

AFAIK No.

And that's like having a Big Mac and wanting the meat on the outside.

Anywho, if you want info in paperspace and not in the model, just draw
it in paperspace, or copy the info from the model and paste it into
paperspace (scaling it down to match the viewport scale of course).

Wow are these threads messed up!

Just replied to this one based on the date of it, then went away and
came back and things are a bit out of order. Maybe it's just me....
