Font flipout

While working on a previously created drawing all my fonts changed into an unrecognizable symbol set. That is for both entered text (dimensions, etc) and the command line, my keyboard entry became an unrecognizable symbol line. When opening other previously created drawings, I found the same to be true. I have no idea if I inadvertently did something or not. Any suggestions?

As a test, start a new drawing with all your preferred
settings then INSERT and EXPLODE one of these oldies: what
happens?

Perhaps those old files are looking for fonts you don't
have, or are different from the ones you have. A sample DWG
file here would resolve it.

Thanks Dean for taking the time to respond to my problem; it was pretty distressing at the time. After doing a cold shut down of my system, I opened the file I had been working on back up and the problem had resolved itself; no earthly idea of what caused it but hoping it stays away.
