FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0004 Exception at 78144e9ah

I encountered this in a drawing when creating a new view port. If I create the new view port and select the view port scale or annotation scale, the entire computer locks up for 3 minutes then a window pops up with this message:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0004 Exception at 78144e9ah

I select "ok" and then a message appears that says AutoCAD has to close and asks if I would like to save. I have tried saving, not saving, saving as, recovering, auditing and purging but nothing seems to work. I'm using AutoCAD LT 2008. Anyone have any suggestions?

turn off video card hardware acceleration in Windows Display and then
try it again, see if that helps.
