Hello Michael,
I want to explain something about the fatal error message.
Fatal error occurs in many different reasons.
And usually, fatal error message indicates there was a conflict at certain sector of your hard drive. So basically, it tells just a location and this case, I couldn't find any data related on your error message.
But slow speed could be the clue.
If you use Windows 7, please check this technical solution.

Hello Michael,
I check the file you sent to me and got the message that the drawing file contains AEC objects.
Which means the drawing file was created from AEC product like AutoCAD Architecture.
When I checked, the opening times from AutoCAD LT 2013 and 2014 were almost same.
But after I installed AEC oject enabler on AutoCAD LT 2013,it was shortened.

So I guess, you may already install AEC object enabler on AutoCAD LT 2013 and you need that for 2014 version to work with your file.
