Error "Copy to Clipboard Failed"

  • We have 10 MB drawing file containing Electrical Network Map
  • In both AutoCAD 2013 and AutoCAD 2013 LT, we are not able to copy the entities to clipboard due to Error "Copy to Clipboard Failed" (the task is to copy entities to another drawing using “Paste to co-ordinates” option)
  • There was NO such error in earlier version of AutoCAD 2008 in same computers (Dual core CPU, 2.8 Ghz, 2 GB RAM)

See your other post.

Also - SCALELISTEDIT from the Command line. Is this list clean for your use?

LA from the Command line - Are there multiple Layer Filters that you do not use?

Please mark any response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question.

"...file containing Electrical Network Map..."

Did 2008 have an object enabler installed that 2013 does not have?

Was 2008 actually AutoCAD Electrical 2008? And now you only have plain AutoCAD2013/LT2013?

This link seems to expand on my suspicions:

What part?  The part that mentions that it may be fixed by Release 2111?  Smiley Wink

If that's all you got out of that three page link then I feel sad for you 🙂

It worked when following is carried out

1. Entire drawing is made a block

2. This block is inserted in a new drawing

3. Block is exploded

4. Purged the block

Then further NO such  "Copy to Clipboard Failed" error happened

Thanks

Can you compare the old to new for Layer Filters and Scalelist abundance.

I'm curious to see if either of these were part of the WBLOCK fix.

Hi, the thru form to use Ctrl + C is, press first the Ctrl+C and select the object before, when I copy in this order all work nice

I discovered something that can be used (in some cases, I supose) before they fix the problem:

1.- Select the objects you want to copy

2.- Right click on mouse and click on "copy selection". Don´t give it a base point.

3.- Go to the other one dwg and Edition->paste (or paste in original coordinates, both have worked for me).

I have no idea why the recents versions of Autocad don't let us copy/paste, but is something, isn´t it?

Whatever happened to using the wblock command on the objects you want and insert the blocked objects in the other drawing

Finally, the only way I have found to solve definetively this problem is export to dgn format. I reallly can't undestand: Autodesk doesn't help us, so I'm forced to use the rival format (MicroStation)... Is hilarious.

Will it be as hilarious when your drawing bloats to 20 MB because of orphaned linetypes in your fresh ACAD drawing? Be careful.  Microstation  has done nasty things to ACAD drawings.

Apparently my concerns were well founded. 2014 is out and no fix yet.  Smiley Happy

"Copy to Clipboard Failed", I had same problem when i tried to copy the elements from a file. it may was some "damaged elements" or something else in my dwg file. I solved my problem like this:

 - I found my "damaged elements" by trying to copy apart of each elements until error window was displayed again

 - I selected this elements which impossible to copy and transformed to blocks

 - after exploding this blocks, i no more had this error. For every eventuality i saved my elements in a new opened dwg file.

May be this method will not work in all of cases, but i hope it will be useful for someone). Good luck).
