Edit Field sq.ft. in blocks to autopopulate by pline layer

I have a block that i want the sq. ft. attribute to poplulate based on the pline inside the drawing that is on a certain layer.

without having to edit field in each drawing it will automatcally populate based on the sq footage of that pline on that certain layer. is it possible?

No, a Field must have something that it is tied to so if you create the PLINE new in each drawing you will need to add the Field to it for each time you do this.

If you create a Block where this is already done and then Insert that into the Drawing then the Field will be able to update with the square footage.

Not sure but you would still need to assign the Field specifically each time one was created; if a Region can be used in that way.

1. Create the PLINE outline or REGION.
2. Create a FIELD for that object.

You cannot have #2 if you don't have #1 already in place.

Does what you want to do fit in the very specific parameters I just identified?

Note: a PLINE can be resized anytime (and the field will update automatically) but you cannot do the same with a REGION.
